Welcome back to the BuzzFlash.com GOP Hypocrite of the Week.

Well, this one takes the cake.

Arlen Specter likes to swing both ways politically when it comes to media blather. So, it's little surprise that he voted for Alito on the premise that he could help influence Alito not to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Okay, stop laughing now, he actually said that.

Specter got to be Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee by promising the Busheviks that he would occasionally talk "liberal" to keep his Philadelphia stronghold happy, but he would ultimately deliver for the Bush Politburo.

And that he proved with the Alito nomination, running the hearings on time and on script, down to a gratuitous lie to Ted Kennedy and the infamous on-cue tearful exit of Mrs. Alito.

Specter now is promising that he will hold hearings on Bush's wiretapping. It's really nothing other than a carrot to keep Democrats from filibustering Alito. Specter has already said that he didn't think Bush broke the law, but certainly if he did it might be impeachable -- but since he didn't, there's nothing for Bush to worry about. That's the essence of Specter's convoluted, hypocritical "have it both ways" stance.

Specter is just a creepy Republican Northeast version of the unctuous Orrin Hatch. He doesn't have an independent bone in his body, except when it comes to posturing for the Pennsylvania press.

The Busheviks would have never allowed Specter to chair the Judiciary Committee if he didn't sign a loyalty oath. Of course, to be loyal to the Busheviks means you support breaking the law, which makes it hypocritical to be the head of the Senate Committee that oversees issues of justice.

For that reason, "Snarlin' Arlen" more than merits being named this week's GOP Hypocrite of the Week.
