Ernie Fletcher
Welcome back to the BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite of the Week.
When last we
visited Ernie Fletcher, GOP Governor of Kentucky, he had just pardoned
a posse of aides to
prevent them from testifying against him, even if they hadn't gone
to trial yet.
Fletcher is a state house version of George W. Bush,
except there is no one to prosecute Bush, since he controls the Justice
Department
and the Republican Congress won't investigate even one of his countless
violations of the law.
But things in Kentucky haven't deteriorated that badly yet. It's
not a one-party de facto dictatorship, for the time being. So Fletcher
found himself in the hairs of a prosecutor who caught the GOP Gov.
engaging in some illegal activity. Fletcher said he was innocent
and then copped the Fifth Amendment, refusing to incriminate himself
before a grand jury.
Well, time and the law have caught up with Fletcher, who will go
on trial in the near future. Despite the pardoning of nine aides,
the prosecutor had enough evidence earlier this month to indict
Ernie anyway.
Now, as Fletcher continues to proclaim he is the victim of a political
vendetta, his lieutenant governor, a former GOP prosecutor, is jumping
ship and won't run again with Fletcher.
Fletcher was elected in 2003 as the first Republican governor of
the Bluegrass State since 1971. He may be the last for awhile, unless
he plans on governing from jail.
Would only the same fate befall Bush and Cheney, but, alas, for the
moment, we must content ourselves with once again honoring Ernie
Fletcher as the BuzzFlash "GOP Hypocrite of the Week." He's
a true role model for the Republican Party, and no doubt a favorite
of George W's.
Remember our motto at BuzzFlash.com: So many Republican hypocrites,
so little time.
Catch up with you soon. * * *
