Welcome back to the BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite of the Week.
How do you choose between a GOP consultant accused
of pedophilia and responsible for a notorious anti-Al Gore ad and a GOP “family values” Republican whose claim to fame
appears to be that he was an adulterer.
Since the consultant hasn’t yet been convicted of sexual misconduct
with pre-pubescent girls, we’ll go with Tom Gallagher, who
is seeking the Republican nomination to replace Jeb Bush as Governor
of
Florida. The Miami Herald aptly headlined a story on Gallagher: “Gallagher's
family values take hit with revelations: Tom Gallagher's admission
that a 1979 extramarital affair led to his divorce forced the candidate
for governor to leave the script of his family-focused campaign.”
Yes, the philandering Republicans who espouse family values are a dime
a dozen.
For his part, Gallagher’s “ex-wife, Ann Louise,
kicked him out of their Miami home in 1979 when she discovered he had
been having a year-long affair with a Tallahassee legislative aide.” There’s
more, After Ann Louise filed for divorce in 1979, an allegedly intoxicated
Gallagher returned to their home and tore a screen off the house, the
court documents say. The next day, he returned and took the dog. Ann
Louise Gallagher asked a judge for a restraining order.
But not to worry, Gallagher is from the George W. Bush school of evading
responsibility. Yes, ladies and gentleman, Gallagher asks Florida voters
to forgive him because, you guessed it, he’s “found Christ.”
Hey, and look what “finding Christ” did to Bush. It enabled
him to run roughshod through the American Constitution, lie like a
con
man, destroy Iraq and make us nearly bankrupt.
Tom Gallagher knows a role model when he sees one – and for that he merits being chosen as the BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite of the week.
