Tom DeLay's protege -- the slickster John Boehner, who represents a district in Ohio, yet has a permanent tan even during a Buckeye winter -- replaced DeLay as GOP House Majority Leader when DeLay finally got caught for his crimes and misdeeds.

Boehner showed his bonafides as Republican leadership a few years back by passing out cigarette company campaign checks on the House floor. The elimination of a tobacco subsidy was under consideration at the time.

GOP representatives saw what was going on and must have thought, "Now this is a guy who should be leading the Republicans in Congress. He's got the cash."

But what earns Congressman Boehner this week's BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite of the Week Award is his defense of a GOP felon, a growing group to be sure.

After fellow Ohio Congressman Bob Ney admitted to federal felony charges of corruption, Congressman Boehner said that Ney was welcome to stay in the House of Representatives.

Boehner supported Clinton's impeachment and he has relentlessly pursued punishing Democrats in the Congress for even the smallest of improprieties. However, when a fellow Buckeye Republican admits to the feds that "he had accepted tens of thousands of dollars in illegal favors from Abramoff and from a Syrian businessman nicknamed the 'Fat Man,'" Congressman Boehner gets all misty-eyed with forgiveness.

Well, forgive us, but that's just gross hypocrisy. We'd deliver the award to Congressman Boehner personally, but we don't know whether to find him in Ohio, sunning himself on Miami Beach or shilling for the tobacco industry on the floor of our Congress.

Wherever he is, he sure does deserve to be the BuzzFlash.com GOP Hypocrite of the Week.

Remember our motto: So many Republican hypocrites, so little time.

Catch up with you soon.
