September 29, 2006 | SEND TO A FRIEND George W. Bush
The succinct headline of a Chicago Tribune article encapsulates the entire mindboggling, incomprehensible scale of Bush's hypocrisy: "Bush Denies War Incites Terrorists." Never mind that it was the unanimous finding of all top 16 intelligence agencies 6 years into the Bush administration who found that the Iraq war is creating more terrorists and increasing the threat of terrorism. Never mind that the conclusion came from the newly "restructured" spy agency apparatus under Bush appointee John Negroponte. When it comes to hypocrisy, evasion of responsibility and straight out lying, Bush is your man. We've said it before and we will say it again. Part of Bush's staying power is that he is so bold, brazen and audacious in his contempt for reality and the facts that the common person can't believe anyone could get away with such a boldfaced denial of reality. So, then they believe Bush, because it doesn't pass the standard of belief that someone would be so fundamentally dishonest about something so serious as the security of our nation. As one columnist observed, "Bush is the desperate leader of a desperate Republican majority haunted by what could happen to them as a result of their incompetent and disastrous response to 9/11. The latest National Intelligence Estimate, reflecting the conclusions of all 16 intelligence agencies, states that the Iraq war has increased the number of terrorists and the danger we face from terrorism. A record 6,600 Iraqi civilians were killed in July and August. Manfred Nowak, the U.N. special investigator on torture, reports that torture in Iraq is totally out of hand. The situation is so bad many people say it is worse than it has been in the times of Saddam Hussein. "Bush's response to all this is to ask the American people to let him do more torturing. If you won't, he threatens to label you as soft on terrorism, just as McCarthy threatened to call those who disagreed with him soft on communism. It's time to ask Bush: 'Have you no sense of decency sir, at long last?'" No, Bush has no sense of decency, nor, alas, of the monstrous betrayal of his arrogance, lying and hypocrisy. Remember our motto: So many Republican hypocrites, so little time. Catch up with you soon. * * * Previous HOTW Awards for George Bush: June 16, 2006, March 3, 2006, February 24, 2006, December 2, 2005, October 14, 2005, October 7, 2005, July 22, 2005, July 8, 2005, June 3, 2005, February 25, 2005, The 2004 Hypocrite of the Year, and more. |
