November 24, 2006 | SEND TO A FRIEND | GET EARLY NOTICE OF THE HOTW John McCain
John McCain might have been riding the Straight Talk Express back in 2000, but now he's definitely a passenger in a Double Talk Taxi. It would take a long feature article to detail how profound McCain's shift has been from a man of integrity to a man of opportunism, but let's just say that McCain has gotten so close to kissing George W. Bush's behind that he's got Joe Lieberman's lipstick on his cheek. This past week, John cravenly came out against Roe v. Wade, after supporting it prior to his loss to Bush in the 2000 Republican primaries. Slandered in that election by Bush and the Evangelical rent-a-preachers, McCain is now crawling over glass to get the benighted blessing of the Jerry Falwells of the world. Given his experience as a Vietnam POW, most folks trusted McCain when he said he was against torture. Yet, when negotiations with the White House ended, McCain gave Bush exactly what Bush wanted, the right to torture, with just enough wiggle room to claim that he didn't. He also advocates sending 20,000 more American Gis to Iraq, putting our soldiers smack dab in the middle of a civil war that's killing them every single day. Why John McCain would do that -- a guy who should know something about lost wars -- is beyond comprehension. Many people thought McCain was a conservative you could trust, a man with honor. But he's just another GOP Hypocrite. Remember our motto: So many Republican hypocrites, so little time. Catch up with you soon. * * * Previous HOTW Awards for John McCain: July 10, 2004. |
