EARLY NOTICE OF THE HOTW
L. Paul Bremer
Welcome back to the BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite of the Week.
The Busheviks gave him the title of "Viceroy," as
if he were representing a royal court in their rule over a distant
land.
Come to think of it, that sounds about right for the Bush perspective
on the role of Paul Bremer in serving as the White House ruler in Baghdad
after Bush prematurely declared "mission accomplished"
and that "major combat operations are over."
You remember Bremer. He was the guy running around in a blazer, tie,
and pocket handkerchief, as if he were going off to the Yale Club for
a martini. But he made a concession to being in a war zone by wearing
combat boots. Kind of the apparel version of the schizophrenic Bushevik
doctrine in Iraq.
Anyway, it now turns out that he oversaw the disappearance of some
$12
billion. That's right, Bremer just let $12 billion
be given out to the Iraqis without any accountability whatsoever.
Before a congressional hearing, Bremer shrugged it off as if he couldn't
understand what all the fuss was about. Besides he had to pay off ghost
payrollers so that the Iraqis wouldn't get too upset. He did
a real fine job in that task, didn't he? Did he think he was
working for the City of Chicago Water Department?
Bremer penned a "memoir" of his "Viceroy" days
that quickly moved to the sale bins. It was entitled, "My
Year in Iraq: The Struggle to Build a Future of Hope."
Uh, with at least 1/3 of the rebuilding contracts under criminal
investigation and countless more yet to be looked at,
it looks like Bremer was building a future of corruption.
And for that effort, he merits being named the BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite
of the Week.
Until next week, remember our motto: So many Republican hypocrites,
so little time.
Catch up with you soon.
