EARLY NOTICE OF THE HOTW
John McCain
Welcome back to the BuzzFlash GOP Hypocrite of the Week.
It was the kind of defining moment when the bigotry, hatred, and vulgarity
bubbling below the surface of Republican code language rises to the
surface and peeks out.
Just the other day, we ran this headline on BuzzFlash: "McCain
Slithers Into the Gutter. A Woman in South Carolina, Where McCain was
the Object of Rovian Smear Attacks in the 2000 GOP Primary, Asks McCain, "How
do we beat the bi*ch?" McCain Responds, "That's
an excellent question." Revolting.
Yes, in the 2000 Republican primary in South Carolina, Karl Rove circulated
rumors that McCain had fathered a black child (the GOP never strays
far from its racist "Southern Strategy") and had actually
been a coward in Vietnam. McCain was indignant, of course, as he should
have been. On top of that, because racism and slander sells to bigoted
members of the GOP (redundancy alert), McCain lost the state, and from
there, the nomination.
Fast forward to 2007, as McCain desperately seeks to salvage a derailed
campaign. At a rally, the subterranean hatefulness of the Republican
Party makes a rare public appearance when a blonde woman asks "Straight
Talk Express" John, "How do we beat the bi*ch?"
After laughing a bit, instead of rebuking the questioner, McCain responds, "But
that's an excellent question."
This isn't just pandering to the right-wing "base." It's
gross hypocrisy from someone who claims to champion American values.
For that, John McCain truly deserves to be named the BuzzFlash GOP
Hypocrite of the Week.
Remember our motto: So many Republican hypocrites, so little time.
Catch up with you soon.
