So Many Republican Hypocrites, So Little Time

Welcome back to the Buzzflash GOP Hypocrite of the Week.

Okay, the media and Hillary Clinton demand that Barack Obama not only renounce and repudiate the endorsement of the toxic Louis Farrakhan, but also that he reject it to, which he did.

Yet, no such hue and cry is coming from the media and the D.C. elite for John McCain to repudiate the recent endorsement (which McCain eagerly accepted) of the noxious religious fanatic John Hagee.

Hagee, one of those mega televangelists so near and dear to the Republican Party, has -- according to The Associated Press referred to the Roman Catholic Church as "the great whore" and called it a "false cult system" and "the apostate church"; the word "apostate" means someone who has forsaken his religion.

The Associated Press article notes:

For his part, Hagee on Monday denied that he is anti-Catholic, saying in a statement to the Christian Broadcasting Network, "I have always had great love for Catholic people and great respect for the Catholic Church. I am shocked and saddened to learn of the mischaracterization of my views on Catholics."

However, Hagee did not explain exactly how his harsh criticisms of the Catholic Church had been mischaracterized.

McCain, who really should share the GOP Hypocrite of the Week Award with Hagee for accepting the endorsement, should be avoiding end-timers instead of embracing them. Wikipedia's description of just some of Hagee's apocalyptic theology should have given McCain a lot of pause for thought:

In his book Jerusalem Countdown: A Warning to the World, Hagee interprets the Bible to predict Russia and the Islamic states will invade Israel and be destroyed by God. This will cause the anti-Christ, the head of the European Union, to create a confrontation over Israel between China and the West. A final battle between East and West at Armageddon will then precipitate the Second Coming of Christ. In a discussion concerning Muhammad, he claims Muhammad was a man of war and this influence on Islam is the cause of the troubles of Jerusalem.
